This book was on the 3 to 4 grade teacher summer list, but it was one that took forever to read. Way to babyish for 9 years old. My kid just hated it.
This was one of the books on our Summer reading list - I can't figure out why. The "heroine" is a whiny, complainer. It got old. Quick.
This middle grade novel is one that I'm hoping to share with my fourth grade students this year. The characters in this story were realistic and funny; young readers will certainly identify with the main character's struggle to fit in with her neighbors and classmates in a new town. Ace, the quirky grandfather, is a lovable character, and many great themes about family are found in these pages. The idea of a girl having to feed, walk, and care for an orange juice jug "dog" is so original and entertaining. I highly recommend this book!
