Lots of action and a great plot. Characters were first rate with the exception of the computer expert's continual complements of the Osama Obama and his administration. Although only four of obama's eight years of disastrous rule was covered, no one could be so blind and dumb as this author in thinking obama was anything but an anti-American. China is definitely more of a threat to us than anyone else and it will take an extremely strong President, like Trump, to deal with them. If the author could leave his liberal leanings behind and focus only on facts while writing fiction, then he would get five stars continually.Tags : Proportionate Response - Kindle edition by Dave Buschi. Proportionate Response edition by Dave Buschi Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Wow. This novel was like being at an action flick in the big screen of your mind. Well researched (I honestly wondered if the author has a history of military or black ops in his past). That's realism. The script is cryptic, truncated, fast paced. The read is like being shot at with words. Intriguing plot with genuinely evil characters that justify that proportionate response. Buschi is good at letting your imagination fill in the blanks and does not assault you with gratuitous gore or tasteless raunch. A real good guys vs bad guys scenario and you cheer for the good guys and wonder right to the end if and when they'll succeed and what will be the price. No spoiler here buy it and read it to find out. A buy signal from me if you like action genres. The kind of book you don't want to put down...
This could have been such a good book had the author kept a consistent train of thought for more than one or two paragraphs at a time. The main characters were not likeable...at all...very juvenile, as one reviewer perfectly pin-pointed. The gratuitous violence (child abuse) did not serve the plot in the least; we have imaginations - no need for such explicit detail to evoke emotion. Finally, the attribution of significant, historical cyber events to these two yahoos was laughable and thoroughly exceeded the realm of even my vivid imagination. Two stars for a good plot; unfortunately never realized.
This writer has such an excellent way of building the characters and plot that I always read his books much faster than I want to. The latest example of this, Proportionate Response, was even worse. The story has possible dark places, but a subtle humor and humanizing touch on the protagonists make it absolutely unputdownable. When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it. Buschi writes about timely topics which makes the story even more immediate, and this story is no exception. Even for people who don't like action books, this book will keep you riveted. I think (hope?) that his books are all turned into movies someday. And, please, Mr. Buschi, could you write faster? I really want more! The only writer I've given five stars to for each and every one of his books.
This book was simply amazing and the main characters, in a way, remind me of Robert Parker's Spenser and Hawk in the way they banter back and forth. The comic relief in sometimes tense and horrible situations is welcomed. The writing style is nothing like Parker's but the team of Marks and Lip have the potential to be equally as memorable and lovable as Spenser and Hawk.
The story itself was interesting and full of thought provoking and potentially true to life (in that they could be plausible) events. I didn't even mind that things became somewhat political and that's something I tend to stay away from, even in the real world.
The secondary characters were interesting and lively as well. Lip's Ma is a hoot. I'd like to see more of her. There's so much potential there.
I very highly recommend this if you're a fan of the Spenser books, or enjoy a great crime fighting duo who want to right the wrongs of the world. I will most certainly be reading more by this author and can't wait to see more of Marks and Lip!
As another review said
"A good thriller that bogged down at times with too many details and too much irrelevant character history. A good edit would have made a shorter & more page turner of a book."
Like entire chapter 97 - Lisa finds something!? And the 'Paris Island' flashbacks. A little fine ... page after page - not.
Bunnie booties and their history ... not needed, and 1/2 the humor nada.
Why give this 4 stars good read and potential for this author.
