Persuasion Heirs of Watson Island Martina Boone Books
I love it when an author can take a character from a previous story, and, building upon what has already been developed, surprise the reader by showing a new side in a new situation that is a bit unexpected while still remaining true. Martina Boone does just that with her three main characters in this second book of the COMPULSION series. With PERSUASION, Martina's skill at painting vivid pictures with her words, and prying the reader into the very heart of her characters, is even more impressive. Persuasion does not present idealized, almost-perfect teens always behaving their best, but rather realistically portrayed, maturing young adults struggling to make their own decisions...and then dealing with the repercussions when they make a mistake (as teens do!).
But perhaps what I liked best about PERSUASION was the new magical element and character introduced in this story. Obadiah comes vividly alive (if he ever really was) and fascinated me with his persona and secrets., I felt compelled to turn the pages until the very end. I love the underpinnings of myth in this series and how the author has given them her own unique, modernized spin to show how similar and unifying folk tales can be across cultures.
Unlike many mid books in a series, PERSUASION definitely turns the pacing up a notch. The setting, the romance, the mystery -- all so darkly magical, I hated for the story to end.
At least there's the third book to look forward to!

Persuasion Heirs of Watson Island Martina Boone Books Reviews
This book is a great read for teens and an easy, fairly quick read for adults. My only complaint is that it takes a year for the next book to come out!
It's an interesting read with an intriguing mystery. the development of the characters and their relationships is well done . it still kept me reading however it is slightly more on the slow side then other ya books I've read
Starts off where compulsion left off. Action packed, innocently romantic, and super natural. I read it quickly and can't wait for the next book.
Loved this book and the characters; wanted immediately to dive into the next one!
I was so happy to start and finish the novel. It was a little slow at the beginning and picked up toward the end. The mix of new and old characters helps the story move along. I am ready to read the third installment of the series!
Compulsion was such a beautiful book, both to read and as a physical object, that I wanted to wait and read the hardcover version of Persuasion. However, I was too impatient, so I bought the hardcover and the book. I was not disappointed, but now I'm mad that I have to wait for the next one. The new character of Obediah brings new levels of mystery and drama. Plus, we get to see Cassie actually reacting to past trauma like a real teen would. I love to hate Cassie. I also love how this book digs deeper into not only how these present characters are traumatized by their recent pasts, but how the land and families are traumatized by the curses and gifts, and by the longstanding impacts of slavery and the Civil War. I can't wait to see how Martina Boone digs into the gorgeous knot she has tied with these stories in the next book!
I loved the first book in the series of The Heirs of Watson Island. It felt different, and it felt so Southern I could almost smell the food and the hear the sounds.
It was as if it was almost complete and I would have enjoyed it as a stand alone. But, knowing the other mysteries were going to be unraveled and I could get to see more of Eight and Barrie and Cassie... I wanted to go back to it.
And maybe I was expecting too much of this book. It feels less than the first one, and it also feels like a preparation for what it's comming, because I know something big has to happen in the next installment, this feels a bit bland. But anyway, it's good and it's easy to read and it's enjoable and different from other YA. It has a strong sense of place, and of the South with its food and its drawl.
Though, I really will go and read the third one
