Magic Rises Kate Daniels Ilona Andrews Books
I haven’t felt this emotionally wrung out over a book in a very long time. That sick to your stomach feeling where your heart feels like it is permanently lodged in your throat. I felt so many emotions while I read Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews. I felt sorrow and rage, remorse and regret. At times I even felt relief but more that anything, I felt an all-consuming sense of helplessness. I was helpless to fix the situation and my hands trembled as I turned each page. I was so torn and broken up inside while I read the story, captivated by what was happening. I couldn’t put the book down. I was so captivated that I read the entire book in two days with minor breaks where I just had to step away and breath because it was just too much to handle in that moment. It was too intense to try to experience in just one day the way I usually do with Andrew’s books. In the past I have read each of her books in a day, so wrapped up in the story that I couldn’t set the book down but this one, this book caused me heartache and pain. So much so that I couldn’t just push through it, I had to stop, to step back, and force myself to calm down, to remind myself that it wasn’t real and that in the end things would work out because they had to, they just had to.I cannot tell you enough how much I felt as I read this book. How absorbed I was by each word, each sentence, each moment that went by. I met new characters and grew closer to old ones and perhaps that is why the book affected me so much. Because I have grown fond of Kate. I know many individuals find book boyfriends to swoon over and root for and Curran very much so is a book boyfriend of mine but Kate, no one is better than Kate. No character exists that I ever loved as much as I love her, like that best friend or sister that you couldn’t imagine not having in your life and watching her feel pain and sorrow hurt because I know her and felt her pain too.
This is one of the strangest reviews I have ever written because I’m not going to tell you that the hook is great or that the ending is unexpected and exciting or that the romance is so sweet and pure. I’m not going to go on about Andrew’s style of writing or perfection in this, that, or the other because what mattered to me in regards to this book is that I felt something and it affected me. That is why I love this book, why I would recommend that YOU should read it and why Ilona Andrews has and always will be an all time favorite author of mine.

Magic Rises Kate Daniels Ilona Andrews Books Reviews
How the hell can a book series that is six books in still be this good??? This book was...what else is there to say? What more can I say about the authors? What else is left to say about the series that hasn't been said before? It's top-notch, it's superb, it's action filled. There's romance, relationship drama, distrust, devious plots abound, nasty creatures masquerading as shapeshifters, lol even an awesome who's the daddy sub-plot and we even get a surprise engagement.
We get some intel on the infamous Roland, we get to leave Atlanta for a fresh new destination, we meet new packs and boy do they bring some messed up pack politics and antics. We get to see Kate continue to hone and test the limits of her powers (my girl is the ultimate bad ass! Angelina Jolie ain't got nothing on Kate Daniels).
I loved Desandra! She's so much freaking fun, she has no filter, she vomits hilarity. "Cool your tits" still has me chuckling. I'm so glad I'll be seeing her in the future!
I know I should hate Hugh D'Ambray but um...I seriously don't. I'm soooo excited to see that his own book is in the works and as soon as it's available it will be on my pre-ordered list. He's such an evil naughty boy, and I loved every minute of him.
I first picked up the series in 2012 I devoured the first four books in about a month, then I took a really long break (thanks life). But I am back on board and I am moving right into book 7! Can't wait to see what's next in the crazy freaking world of Kate Daniels!
The final Kate Daniel novel releases this year. So, I thought It’d be a good time as any to catch up on the series. I don’t know why but I’ve been holding off on reading the series for years, even though it’s my favorite series and I know it’s going to be great…and of course, it was! The sixth installment in the series takes Kate, Curran, Derek, Andrea…and a few more away from The Keep as they travel across The Black Sea to act as bodyguards to Cassandra, a shifter whom is about to give birth to twins in exchange for a cure for lupism. The gang know that it’s likely a trap, but they’re in for a rude awakening when the find out who’s in charge and things are a lot worst than it seems.
There’s A LOT that went on in Magic Rises. Kate and Curran’s relationship is tested by Curran’s former acquaintance, the other two packs has it out for Kate feeling she’s unfit to be a consort because she’s not a shifter, unknown creatures are wrecking havoc on the island, and Kate’s history and identity is at risk of being exposed. I’m sure there were more things but like I said, there’s too many things going on at once.
I’ve been following this series for almost 10 years now, and with each book it just gets better and better. The world building is complex and ever-expanding; there’s always something new to discover. And I love seeing the characters grow into their person and their relationship with one another. It crazy to see how far everyone has come. The third book in the series has been my favorite book for the longest time, but now Magic Rises takes the coveted position (but I’m pretty sure that’s going to change again when I read the next book lol). Magic Rises made me deliriously happy, annoyed, left me gobsmacked and a few more emotions I can’t reiterate.
It made me happy because, hello…it’s a Kate Daniels novel. Enough said. But really, I liked that it took place in a new location with new characters. Kate was totally bad-ass, as usual. The other packs verbally and physically attacked her and she handle everything like it was a walk in the park. She didn’t care about anyone’s opinion of her. When they voiced their doubts about her, instead of stooping to their level by arguing, Kate showed her worth by her actions which spoke volumes. Kate and Curran’s relationship was pretty close of being over at one point. For the majority of the book Curran spent his time with a former lady acquaintance as rumor flew that Kate was going to get replaced. I was annoyed that Kate actually believed it! She and Curran have been so much together and I was surprised that she actually doubted his loyalty and love for her. And finally, to say I was shocked at the events towards the end is an understatement. There were casualties, we lost a favorite shifter! I literally gasped out loud during the dining hall scene…all hell broke loose.
Andrews have written yet another amazing addition to the Kate Daniel Series. Magic Rises is definitely a game-changer and I can’t wait to see what happens next…I have a feeling it’s going to be big. Maybe Roland will finally make an appearance! All in all, I love this book and series, it’s one of the best Urban Fantasy out there and is still going strong after six books. Normally when authors publish four or more books in a series, things get stale, redundant, dull or some combination of all three but Andrews don’t have that issue…ever. If you want to read the best that Urban Fantasy has to offer, then you need to read this series A.S.A.P. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
