This is not an original plot----but Janet Woods makes it work. She does better than that, she makes an old love story interesting from beginning to end. Julia is the beloved only child of a wealthy industrialist. Her dad raised Julia alone after her mom's death. As part of his adoration he develops, and makes popular a paper doll in her image. When her dad has financial setbacks, and disaster is nearing Julia saves him by marrying the wrong man. Latham, her husband, is handsome, rich and possessive. Life is miserable and abusive forJulia. Then there is the paraelle story of what is happening to the man she did not marry. Although there is sex through out the book it is well done and not explicit. Julia and Latham's miserable marriage is a large part of the plot. I will not be a spoiler and tell the end but it is redeeming.
